The Writer + The Reader = Communication

Write for your reader (audience).  Whether you are writing an essay assigned by a teacher or an email/text to a friend, THINK before you write about the best way to connect with your reader.  Writing is an important means of expressing yourself.  Write so that you are completely understood by the reader.

Example: If you write, “See you,” your reader will not know specifically where or when.  If you write, “See you at the mall at 4:30,” your reader will know exactly when and where you intend to connect.

Example: Writing Lord of the Flies was a good book, does not say much.  On the other hand, Lord of the Flies is (try to use the present) a good book about a society that self-destructs because there are no rules, communicates far more about the novel and will probably earn you a better grade.
