Scoop: Words Matter 11-2-2019

Repeat your themes again and again, but do not be redundant.  This may seem contradictory; however, did you ever notice how a song repeats its melody over and over?  The words may change, yet the theme continues.

Example: Your assignment is to write about a character in The Scarlett Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The depiction of Hester Prynne, the main character of the novel,  should tell the reader about Hester's attributes and be well-written, too.
Hester Prynne is a strong woman.  She is able to carry out her convictions in the face of challenges.  As a role model for her daughter and her community, Hester shows that she can overcome obstacles.  ALL of these sentences have the same theme: Hester is strong.  However, each emphasizes Hester’s strength by using different words.

Scoop: Try using your Thesaurus to find synonyms for strong: powerful, able, capable, steady, tenacious are a few.
