Writing Scoop: Words Are Beautiful

Words are beautiful.  Each word may have one or more meanings.  Sometimes words sound like their meanings.  Today's word is not commonly used in everyday speech, but nonetheless it is a beautiful word.  You may find the word flâneur in magazine articles, books or opinion pieces.  It rolls off the tongue: flâneur.  Flâneur means a wanderer, but not in the sense of someone wandering through the jungle or lost in the desert.  A  flâneur  wanders through city streets; loafing about, window shopping, strolling through parks or people watching.  The flâneur  is what used to be called a "man-about-town," leisurely spending his days wandering the town or city or even countryside.  Some of the very best thoughts are conceived by him/her as the  flâneur strolls, but many of these evaporate as a new sight presents itself.
