Today IS February 8: National Boy Scout Day!

Today IS February 8: National Boy Scout Day!  Scouting has provided millions of boys and girls with an enormous number of skills, experiences and dedication to an organization in which they believe.

The American Boy Scouts was organized in 1910.  It was patterned after a British group that formed 1908.  The original mission of the American Boy Scouts was: "to teach patriotism, courage, self-reliance, and kindred values." The Boy Scouts swelled to 4 million Scouts in the 1970's.  Today there are approximately 2.3 million Boy Scouts in the United States.

The current mission statement, which evolved over the years, is "to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law." Following this code, Scouts are often called on to volunteer in community projects, help the needy and be responsible citizens.  Too, Scouts camp, learn skills and enjoy many group activities.

Celebrate National Boy Scout Day by sharing: If you are a scout tell others about your experiences/achievements!   If you know scouts, ask them about their involvement in scouting! Enjoy!!
