Writing Scoop: Letters From Colleges

If you are a senior in high school or the parent of a high school senior, who did not apply Early Decision to colleges, those acceptance letters are just around the corner!  Spring is a time of awakening: the flowers start to bloom; trees are covered with light green buds and the possibilities are endless.  As you prepare to find out where you will spend the next 4 years of your life, take a moment to appreciate the process.

The hard work you put into high school: the tests, essays, reports, clubs, sports, leadership classes, volunteer work has paid off.  Soon you will be planning for fall.  Maybe you will buy sweatshirts & pennants to pledge your loyalty to your forthcoming college experience.  New clothes, computers & maybe a car are all in your future.  STOP to welcome the last few months of your high school stay.

Maybe you are sad to leave your high school or maybe you can't wait for that graduation day, in any case it will be the last days you will truly be a child.  ENJOY them!  Waiting for the college letters are some of the most intensely nerve wracking & hopeful moments of your life.  ACKNOWLEDGE this experience because it will soon be time to pack for college, figuratively or actually.

“Spring is the time of plans and projects.”
Leo Tolstoy

Make plans as you look forward to adulthood, but never forget your time as a child.
