Necessity is the mother of invention is an old adage. Put simply it means that when a thing is needed, that thing is invented. Never more so than in today's Writing Scoop Fact of the Day!
In 1892, William Painter, invented and patented the bottle stopper. In 1894, Painter invented the bottle opener! This order of events proves that Painter realized that his first invention needed "closure," or in this particular case "opener!"
On a serious note, Painter patented 85 inventions during his lifetime. Born in Ireland, the 3rd of 7 children, Painter eventually founded Crown Holdings, Inc. a Fortune 500 Company.
Moral: As small or as large as your accomplishments might be, there will always be a way for you to contribute! Think of bottle stoppers and Fortune 500 Companies and you will find your own success!
